Snowshoeing

From the first snowfalls of December until the thaw, when the snow whitens our mountains, if alpine skiing or cross-country skiing are not really your things, you just have to put on your snowshoes and start walking to discover all our beauties.

Made with plastic and metal, the snowshoes of today are very different from those made of hemp rope and wood that have been used for centuries, for work, in the Alps and in the far-away Scandinavia. But they work in the same way, allowing us to walk on the snow without sinking. And if we think about bringing together the useful and the enjoyable, then the best is yet to come! In fact, snowshoeing invigorates legs and glutes, shoulders and torso work in symbiosis and, not least, we help keep our heart young and healthy.

If snowshoeing is your passion, Rieti and its province offer many possibilities to give vent to your desire for contact with nature. So, if you’re looking for suggestive panoramas, let’s go snowshoeing from Accumoli to the Pantani plateau, with its lakes overlooking Monti della Laga, or from San Martino di Amatrice to Monte Doro, surrounded by magnificent peaks. With snowshoes you can also reach Rascino and Cornino lakes, among the most interesting destinations in the Lazio Apennines, or Duchessa Lake which, if frozen, will leave you breathless. Also, Terminillo area is no less impressive, allowing you to reach, from Campoforogna, Sella di Leonessa, a magnificent viewpoint on our mount
