“Street Basket Committee”: this is the name of the organizing body of the event which, held in Rieti on 3 and 4 August 2019, saw the city known as the centre of Italy hosting the Qualifications for the U18 FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup (male and female). Variant of the 5-a-side basketball, 3×3 Basketball must be played on a half-court with one basket only and every team consists of three players and one substitute.
3×3 has been a basketball format long played in streets and gyms across the world, becoming as we know it today during the late 1980s.
It is in this decade that the first major tournaments, organized in the USA, begin to set the rules. Since then, 3×3 Basketball has spread throughout the world.
World Championship, European Championship and World Tour have been organized by FIBA since 2007, the format tested for the first time at the Asian Indoor Games of the same year. The worldwide competitive debut took place at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. A tour, that of 3×3 Basketball which has also reached our town, giving sports lovers the magnificent show of young U18 basketball players who played hard to win the qualification for the European Cup.
